Phase of Light

For Phase of Light, Maurice collaborated with musician Eliot Krimsky and Alex Reeves on an interactive experience to accompany Krimsky’s Phase of Light album release.

As a species we have observed the night sky for millions of years and have created mythology surrounding unusual events in the sky, I was inspired by this idea, of mythology being born from nature. The project was also inspired by The Book of Miracles, an Illustrated manuscript created in Germany around 1550 that contains illustrations in gouache and watercolor, depicting wondrous and often eerie phenomena in the sky. I wanted to create my own natural light phenomenon with analog special effects, using glass objects, prisms, water and sunlight. The result is a collection of enigmatic video tableaus, like the ones depicted in the manuscript but created through a modern lens. The Album and project will be released on June 21, 2023.
