Jonathan Kawchuk – Everywhen
Everywhen' is the new album from Canadian wildlife recordist, composer, and vocalist Jonathan Kawchuk. Recorded painstakingly in Dolby Atmos, 'Everywhen' is the product of collaborating with the atmosphere and sounds of the rocky mountains in Kananaskis, Alberta. It is a harsh, anxious, tactile, heavenly, collage-based work of found sound and vocals, of breath and wind and space. It is at once deeply unsettling and supremely calming. It is inspired by and carries the philosophies of athleticism, transcendental black metal, the unfeeling amorality of nature. 'Everywhen' is not a record about a place. It is a record by a place.
Using landscape data and natural materials ethically sourced from the region, Maurice created and cast a sculpture in pine resin, seamlessly fusing the digital and material realms, and presenting captivating impressions of resin mountains pressed into and emerging from limestone dust and glacial water. Digital artist Brad Necyk contributed 3D glass bark elements for the insert, adding an extra layer of depth and transparency to the overall aesthetic. The imagery reflects the collaborative spirit and meticulous attention to detail invested in the creation of Everywhen.
